What the VRB does

The Albury Wodonga Volunteer Resource Bureau (the Bureau) is one of a number of such organisations throughout Australia that receives funding from the Commonwealth Government, state governments and local government, to increase awareness of and foster participation in voluntary work in their regions/communities.

Voluntary work is done by volunteers — people who are willing to spend some of their time, without pay, in helping others or in working for a particular cause. Most voluntary work is done in community organisations such as working with people with disabilities, tutoring in schools and looking after the environment.

The AWVRB works with both individuals who want to become volunteers and with organisations which need volunteers, to match the skill and interests of the volunteers with the needs of the organisation. The Bureau also provides advice, training and resources for organisations who engage volunteers in managing the volunteers to ensure that both the volunteer and the organisation reap benefits from their partnership.

The Bureau has four paid employees and twenty volunteers who are involved interviewing and referring volunteers to one of the many community organisations in the Albury Wodonga region; conducting training for the community organisations and undertaking special projects for particular organisations.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, or if your organisation wants assistance in recruiting, training or managing volunteers, please contact us. Contact details are on the Contact Us page.
