Albury Multicultural officer
The service
The service is funded by the Department of Immigration and
Citizenship (DIAC) under the Settlement Grants Program. The purpose of
the program is to provide settlement assistance and information,
provide referral to mainstream agencies and to advocate for migrant's
issues.
Outcomes
The short-term outcome of the scheme is to address immediate
needs such as language classes, housing issues, child care, education
and employment. The long-term outcome is that all migrants and refugees
living permanently in Australia can participate fully in Australian
society.
Albury Multicultural officer
The Multicultural Settlement officer assists newly arrived
migrants, refugees and humanitarian entrants with settling and living
in Australia through assisting and providing information in areas such
as:
- Employment
- Housing
- Translating and interpreting
- Language/communication
- Citizenship
- Overseas skills recognition
- Centrelink payment
- Taxation
- Education
- Legal matters
- Medical issues
- Family matters
- Relationships
Eligibility
The Settlement programs are targeted to people who have been
in Australia for less than 5 years and who arrived under the
Humanitarian program or Family migration with low English proficiency.
