Pathways training
Explore your volunteer and work pathways
These interactive sessions will include elements that provide
pathways to investigate and gain skills for working or volunteering in
the community. Enrol today for this popular series of small group
sessions and bring a friend if you wish. Morning/afternoon tea and
lunch are provided.
Session 1:
- communicating confidently
- volunteer rights and responsibilities, and
- privacy and confidentiality.
Session 2:
- introduction to OH&S
- working with older people, and
- working with people with disabilities.
Session 3:
- volunteering opportunities for working with children
- essential checks for working with young people, and
- grief and loss.
Session 4:
- cultural communication
- culture and diversity, and
- the refugee experience.
Scheduled sessions:
- August 2010: Session each Thursday on 5th, 12th & 19th and 26th, 9am to 3.30pm.
- October 2010: Session each Thursday on 7th, & 14th 21st and 28th, 9am to 3.30pm.

Costs: $60 for series (four consecutive Thursdays). No charge for Victorian
Centrelink clients and volunteers.

Topics for Pathways training sessions
Working with older people
Topics include: Attitudes of ageing, dementia awareness,
sensory loss and communication.
Disability services
The topics will include types of disabilities, epilepsy,
communication, and what to expect when volunteering
in disability services.
O H & S induction for volunteers
Provides volunteers with an opportunity to understand and be
informed of their OH & S responsibilities whilst volunteering
in community based organisations.
Communicating confidently
This interactive training session will explore communication
as a process of exchange, enabling both volunteers and managers of
volunteers to bring new ideas and methods to their work. Topics such as
what hinders and what helps, empathy, assertiveness and effective
listening will be covered.
Volunteering opportunities with children and young people
This session explores the needs of children and young people
in our region. You will learn more about their experiences and their
dreams and visions for the future. You will improve your communication
skills and knowledge about the issues and challenges young people face.
Volunteering - A pathway to the future
An interactive training session involving a series of
concurrent workshops to assist people considering volunteering.
Sessions will include information about local services and the
volunteering opportunities they offer. Topics such as the benefits of
volunteering, the rights and responsibilities of volunteers and duty of
care, will be covered.
